Socius was founded as a result of a research project on theoretical privatisation models in Slovenia. Socius played the role of think tank for several legal, economic, financial and sociological institutions.
Socius quickly adapted itself by taking on a consulting role to help companies prepare themselves for the oncoming privatisation process.
After the privatisation legislation was passed by parliament, Socius started to achieve its goals and successfully completed over 260 projects in the following years.
Socius founded Business Club as a private business club designed to bring executives and board members together in a semi-informal setting to discuss current trends in business and to hear guest lectures presented by fascinating speakers. The members also attended various cultural, social and sports events. Socius developed and introduced an electronic voting system for shareholders’ meetings.
Socius started to shift its focus away from privatisation in the direction of Slovenian companies’ long-term interests. Realising that a key impediment to the progress of companies in Slovenia was the lack of knowledge, the Socius Education Centre was created in order to disseminate the latest business information to companies. Socius started to focus on Corporate Governance issues.
The lack of high quality communication within corporations, the problem of self-consciousness, poor public speaking and being unable to adapt to changes all led to the decision to bring Dale Carnegie® Training, one of the most prestigious educational programs for adult education in the world to Slovenia. In 1997 Socius acquired its first three licensed trainers for the Training.
Socius initiated a foundation of the Association of Supervisory Board Members od Slovenia.
Socius commenced publishing the Svetilnik newsletter (‘the Lighthouse’), which started to bring corporate governance issues to the attention of 2,000 Slovenian executives and board members every month.
The Socius Club celebrated its 5th anniversary with 200 Slovenian businesspeople at the Vienna City Hall.
Socius started to enhance the Learning Organisation theory in Slovenia and established a representative office in Zurich, Switzerland.
To mark its 10th anniversary, as the initiator Socius co-founded the Learning Organisation Institute along with 25 of the country’s leading companies. Socius established branch offices in Vienna, Austria and Paris, France.
Socius was voted the country’s most recognised consulting firm by top managers. Socius started to publish the Svetilnik Magazine as a quarterly publication. Socius established a branch office in Prague in the Czech Republic.
Svetilnik became a Corporate Governance magazine with improved design, layout and international writers.
Socius established a branch office in Zagreb, Croatia.
Jože Bajuk, Denis Kostrevc and Gorazd Podbevšek wrote Corporate Governance Codes in Europe – a book about the experience for Slovenia, as an essential corporate governance work published in Slovenia.
Socius issued the first Socius Report on Corporate Governance Status in Slovenia.
Socius concluded transformation into an International Corporate Governance Consulting Network.
Socius Club celebrated its 10th anniversary.
The International Advisory Board was founded to provide a basis for international corporate governance projects.
Socius started to publish the international magazine Boardroom in the English language, intended for the fields of corporate management and governance. The magazine is read by over 20,000 managers in Europe and around the world. Socius established the International School of Corporate Governance.
Socius intensified its business co-operation with the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development), the ICGN (International Corporate Governance Network) and the European Commission.
Socius was chosen via an international invitation to tender as an exclusive IFC (World Bank) consultant in the field of corporate governance in SE Europe. Socius' experts give lectures in Paris, London, Shanghai, New York, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Skopje etc.
